TASTING NOTES:

APPROACH: CASE STUDY: 03 | Winter Cover Rye | 3 Barrel Batch is the third installment in Frank August's award-winning 'CASE STUDY' series. This program exemplifies Frank August's commitment to redefining and elevating the character of American whiskey. It serves as a creative platform for experimenting and introducing new, high-quality expressions. CASE STUDY: 03 is a significant milestone, marking the brand's inaugural release of a rye whiskey.

STORY: Rye, known as a cover crop (used primarily to benefit the growth of future crops and for other conservation purposes), plays a crucial role in this release. Some of the brand's finest rye whiskey barrels come from winter distillations and, as a result, were carefully chosen for this edition. Thus, the name 'Winter Cover Rye'. This release also honors the brand's 3rd release with nine unique batches, each consisting of three meticulously selected barrels. This considered process underscoresFrank August's dedication to crafting distinctive 'one-of-one' expressions of American whiskey.

APPEARANCE: The whiskey exhibits a deep amber hue with radiant golden highlights. In the glass, it showcases thick, slow-moving legs, indicative of its rich and full-bodied nature.

NOSE: The nose opens with a harmonious bouquet of rye spice and dried fruit, complemented by hints of honeysuckle and mint. Beneath this initial layer, complex notes of dark chocolate and brown sugar emerge.

As the whiskey breathes, the dried fruit notes, such as apricots and figs, become more pronounced, blending with a delicate floral undertone and a subtle hint of charred oak.

PALATE: The first sip offers an unexpectedly sweet profile for a rye whiskey. While the traditional spice notes are present, they quickly yield to a harmonious medley of flavors led by dark mint chocolate and toffee.

Mid-palate, the spice notes return, enhanced by a touch of citrus zest, adding depth and complexity to the tasting experience.

FINISH: The finish is a crescendo of herbal and sweet notes, perfectly balanced and warming. At 106.25 proof, it delivers a long, bright, and viscous finish, leaving a lasting impression of quality and craftsmanship.
